Finally someone who understands! This is a book about me. Marzi accurately draws out the daily interactions of an introvert and those around them. My whole life I've been trying to explain my fears, joys, hesitations... what makes me relax, what makes me anxious... but not many would empathize with me. A lot of people would pick going to a party over going to the library. Not me :)I was "weird and would eventually get out of this phase". Well I'm 30 now and I'm still an introvert. I'm happy and living a very fulfilling life that I love. But where was this book 15 years ago! You see, Marzi not only shows that there's nothing wrong with being introverted or shy, she also does it in a way that makes you laugh and realize your life is actually pretty interesting. I can relate to each page. Now when I'm with someone who just needs a little more understanding about me I want to hand them this book "here, borrow this. You'll understand" ;)
I discovered Maureen "Marzi" Wilson's captivating "Introvert Doodles" via social media in mid-2016. "Finally," I thought, "somebody truly understands what it's like to be me!" After learning that a collection of her fun tweets was being published, I pre-ordered the book immediately and am delighted to have it in my hands now. Although Marzi certainly isn't the first person to write about personality types which are more introverted than outgoing, she might be the first to do so in the form of comic strip-like illustrations. But don't let her chosen medium fool you. Marzi's artful humor offers every bit as much insight and brilliant observation as a scholarly essay into what it's like being an introvert — in a charming book that's a whole lot more fun to read than any essay. And while "Introvert Doodles" is wholesome and absolutely appropriate for readers of any age (after all, what child doesn't like to page through colorful, humorous drawings), my guess is that the first audience Marzi had in mind are adult introverts who, whether they've been trying to navigate our loud and extroverted world for 25 years or 75 years, have experienced countless times the many awkward situations she aptly illustrates. The humor found within "Introvert Doodles" is potentially both informative and therapeutic. How? Three ways to use Marzi's book immediately come to mind:1. Every introvert should have this as a coffee table book — THE coffee table book!2. Fellow introverts, want to provide a friend or loved one (especially those who are naturally extroverted) a special insight into what it's like being you? Buy a copy of "Introvert Doodles," mark the pages which remind you of yourself (or, even better, of situations you shared with that friend or family member), and then give the book as a gift. Don't forget to write a personal message inside the front cover.3. Think you've spotted someone (friend, relative, acquaintance, coworker, or even a love interest) who you think might be an introvert who isn't yet comfortable in his/her own skin? Gift a copy of Marzi's book as a conversation starter. Inside the cover, I suggest you write a message something like "Each of us is unique, special, and worthy. We are all absolutely fine, just the way we are."Because those are exactly the warm feelings that Marzi gives to me every time I recognize myself in the pages of "Introvert Doodles." Thanks, Marzi!
Yep, I'm another LOVER of this book! I have to agree with all the other reviewers who say "this book is about me!" It is such a feeling of validation and as Suan Cain said... "self-affirming" to see (in fun, graphic cartoon-style....can't think of anything better!) the thoughts of a introvert like myself so accurately depicted; everything Marzi describes is "spot-on." I am a 61 year old introvert who has lived a wonderful life, but who, until recent years after finding and loving so many books on introversion, didn't really understand or realize what made me so different. I knew I'd rather stay home than party, loved being by myself, did a lot of introspection, didn't particularly need or want much social interaction, etc. etc. but didn't know why I was like that when everyone else seemed to be just the opposite. After much research and reading on the subject, I finally "get it." I truly found so much about this book that seemed to be written exactly for me. I really loved the Introvert in her Natural Habitat; and I could have been the model for that picture! Right down to the remote and the cat! Thanks to Marzi! She is a very creative, charming, insightful and inspiring introvert to whom I extend my sincere gratitude for offering such a wonderful book; to re-read, love, lend to family and friends to educate them, etc. Thank you!!!I would love it if Marzi did a Volume 2!
This book perfectly sums up the daily life struggles of an introvert. Very entertaining and well thought out. The quality of the book is very high and the illustrations are well done and in full color. A must have! Highly recommend!
I have thoroughly enjoyed this book and am amazed at how much insight her cartoons have given me into my being an introvert. I could identify with so much of this book and would laugh out loud at times over how much I saw myself. For example, things that I just thought were my personality suddenly made sense, like her "Thanksgiving Survival Tips." One is "If it gets to be too much, escape to the bathroom." Oh my gosh, that's always been something I do in a group setting! Even at the Christmas party recently, before I got there I was planning my escape to the bathroom just to stand and collect myself. I've always said, "I'm my own best friend." This book put who I am into words.
